Working Principle
Suction Phase: When the pump starts to operate, it creates a low - pressure area in the suction pipe. The fluid is then drawn into the suction pipe through the open foot valve due to the pressure difference.
Return Phase: When the pump stops running, the flow of fluid in the suction pipe reverses direction due to gravity and the inertia of the fluid. The foot valve quickly closes to prevent the fluid from flowing back into the source, thus maintaining a certain amount of fluid in the suction pipe and ensuring that the pump is primed for the next start - up. This one - way flow control is crucial for the proper functioning of the pump and the entire fluid handling system.
