Working Principle

Return Phase: When the pump stops running, the flow of fluid in the suction pipe reverses direction due to gravity and the inertia of the fluid. The foot valve quickly closes to prevent the fluid from flowing back into the source, thus maintaining a certain amount of fluid in the suction pipe and ensuring that the pump is primed for the next start - up.
